BATTLING FOR REFORM
IN HUNGARY
A Hungarian physician at a major Budapest hospital, and noted national authority on drug addiction, provided first-hand evidence of rampant psychiatric drug dosing of young and old for Freedom‘s Hungarian edition, Man and Freedom. Through its series of investigative and feature reports on the drug scourge in Hungary and throughout Europe, Man and Freedom debunked psychiatry‘s century-old claim that the answer to drug abuse is substitute addiction to another drug. Once a lone voice against drug proliferation in his country, this addiction expert seconded Man and Freedom‘s research and conclusions, stating, “I would like to point out that the 'harm reduction‘ scheme that uses substitute drugs cannot solve the problem. These methods do not decrease drug consumption.”
Commenting on the publication‘s call for effective drug prevention and rehabilitation, the expert wrote, “In Man and Freedom, the voice of the Church of Scientology speaks of the national drug problem and presents a number of positive ideas concerning it.”
The truth behind battles to improve the culture and create genuine social reform is often lost in “controversy” or swept away in the current of hype and sensationalism.
But with Freedom at the vanguard, many other media have followed its lead, investigating and reporting on stories first published in Freedom‘s pages—thus adding their support to those seeking honest reform and a better quality of life for all.
